First phase of Abiriw Sports Complex ready
The first phase of the Abiriw Sports Complex in the Okere District is ready.
The phase-two of the project comprises of an athletic Oval, multi-purpose court, 600 capacity concrete spectator stands for the football pitch and athletic Oval.
In addition, it has a 300 concrete spectator stands for the multi-purpose court.
During a technical handing over by the contractor, Mr. Dan Kwaku Botwe, MP for Okere indicated that the whole of the Akuapem ridge lacked a standard sports facility where diverse sports activities could take place at the same venue.
‘That was my motivation to lobby for this project to serve the entire Akuapem area to develop talents not only in football but also in athletics, volleyball, basketball, handball, etc’.
The sports complex he said undoubtedly formed part of the several interventions for youth development as well as improving the socio-economic status of the area.
He thanked the Sports ministry for granting his request to undertake such a huge and beneficial project in his const
ituency and hoped that the intended purpose would achieved to push Sports Development.
Mr. Daniel Nana Addo-Kenneth who doubles as the NPP parliamentary candidate for Okere assured that the facility would be put to good use and a special talent development program fashioned out in collaboration with the District Education directorate and other stakeholders.
The sports complex when completed is expected to provide training space to camp various national teams during preparations for local and even international tournaments due to the high altitude and serenity of the area.
