Washington: The U.S. Department of the Treasury has announced an unprecedented, whole-of-government economic campaign against the Islamic Republic of Iran and its enablers. This initiative marks a significant escalation in efforts to sever the financial lifelines that sustain the Iranian regime and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). According to the U.S. Department of the Treasury, this new campaign, called Operation Economic Outcast, aims to dismantle the economic networks that support Iran's activities across the globe. Secretary of the Treasury Scott Bessent emphasized the campaign's intention to completely isolate Tehran economically until it is forced to stand alone. The operation seeks not only to manage the Iranian threat but to end it entirely by targeting any financial resource that aids the regime's activities. The U.S. government is calling on countries worldwide to take immediate action to cut ties with Iran-related financial activities. The Treasury Department has issued strict timel ines for countries to comply, warning that failure to act will result in U.S. enforcement actions. Secondary sanctions risk is also being expanded, targeting entities involved in Iranian oil smuggling, sanctions evasion, and terror funding. Today's actions include OFAC's sanctions against nearly 60 entities, individuals, and vessels across various jurisdictions. These sanctions target those involved in Iran's nuclear and missile technology procurement, cyber operations, and oil-revenue generation networks. Furthermore, the U.S. is expanding sectoral sanctions determinations, focusing on digital assets, technology, gold, aviation, and shipping sectors. The Iranian regime now faces a stark choice: embrace global isolation or work towards reintegration with the international community. The Treasury Department's actions further highlight the U.S. government's commitment to ending Iran's destabilizing influence and activities by cutting off its financial means.
