Security personnel recover six stolen livestock
A joint security operation has led to the recovery of six cows that were stolen by bandits at Kambi-Garba, Isiolo County on Sunday.
The recovered animals were part of 100 cows that 30 rustlers stole and also killed a herdsman.
Isiolo County Police Commander, Moses Mutisya said that policemen drawn from the Kenya Police Service, Anti-Stock-theft (ASTU), General Service (GSU) Rapid Deployment (RDU) and the National Police Reservist (NPR) were rapidly dispatched to track down the rustlers and the animals.
‘Cattle rustling incident was reported at Isiolo police station on Sunday after which police were deployed to swiftly counter the raid following which only six animals have been recovered,’ Mr. Mutisya said.
He said about 30 armed men invaded the homestead of a resident of Kambi Garba, killed a herder and drove away approximately 100 cows towards Samburu County.
The Police boss issued a stern warning to the coordinators of the crime between Isiolo and Samburu Counties saying their days are numbered since
the government will ruthlessly deal with them in an effort to protect lives and property of the citizens.
‘I have contacted my counterpart in Samburu County to facilitate a coordinated operation in the effort to counter the cattle rustlers and recover the stolen livestock,’ said Mutisya.
He said he was optimistic that through a collaboration among the security teams from Meru, Samburu, Marsabit and part of Rift Valley counties, an operation strategy to curb cattle rustling in the area will bear fruits and the remaining animals will be recovered.
Mr. Mutisya added that the Isiolo County security team is working closely with elected leaders to effectively deal with security matters within the county.
He further urged members of the public to be on the lookout for any suspicious security occurrences and urgently report to police so that swift action could be taken to curb crimes in the area.
