Kumbo: A mentally unstable man known as 'Bob Mike' was shot dead by security forces in Kumbo on Friday night under unclear circumstances. Bob, who had lived with mental illness for decades and was known to both security forces, the public, and separatist fighters, was reportedly assaulted before being shot at point-blank range. According to Cameroon News Agency, his body was found lying by the roadside as of 6 pm that evening. The incident has sparked anger and confusion in the town. Bob had managed to survive all nine years of the Anglophone Conflict in Kumbo before his tragic end on Friday. Following his death, tributes flooded in from locals who remembered Bob as a brilliant student at St. Augustine's College in the 1980s, before his mental health issues began. Despite most of his relatives settling in the US, Bob remained in Kumbo and was known for his calm demeanor, wit, and gentleness beneath his chaotic exterior. Since the news broke, the community has been mourning the loss of Bob, a testament to h is impact despite his challenges. Many in Kumbo engaged with him regularly, offering food or conversation, and Bob, in turn, often shared what little he had with others. Bob's former classmates recall his intelligence and fluency in English, noting that he never lost these traits despite his struggles. His death at the hands of a soldier has deepened the community's sorrow and bitterness, raising concerns about safety and justice for all residents.
