Cameroons 92-Year-Old President Paul Biya to Seek Eighth Term

Yaoundé: Cameroons President Paul Biya announced on Sunday that he would be seeking an eighth term in office in the upcoming October elections. This move aims to extend his nearly 43-year tenure as the country’s leader.

According to France24.com, Biya, who is 92 years old, made the announcement on the social media platform X, where he posted in both French and English. In his message, Biya declared, “I am a candidate for the 12 October 2025 presidential election. Rest assured that my determination to serve you is commensurate with the serious challenges facing us.”

The political opposition in Cameroon remains fragmented, struggling to unite behind a single candidate to challenge Biya’s long-standing rule.
