Yaounde:Cameroon’s National Communication Council (CNC) has imposed a one-month broadcasting suspension on the private broadcaster Vision 4, amid an ongoing conflict with the station that has reached the courts. According to Cameroon News Agency, the CNC made this decision during its 48th extraordinary session held in Yaounde. Alongside the broadcasting suspension, Vision 4's media director Philippe Boney has been prohibited from practicing journalism for one month. Additionally, journalist Martial Owona's suspension has been extended from three to six months. The sanctions are partly related to a report by Owona on June 2, involving attorney Me. Félicité Esther Zeifman, who represents the family of slain journalist Martinez Zogo. The CNC had previously found the report to contain statements detrimental to Zeifman's dignity, resulting in Owona’s initial three-month suspension in August. The CNC highlighted that Vision 4 failed to comply with the earlier sanctions and noted that some officials did not atten d summonses issued by the council. Boney's separate sanction arose from comments he made during the August 30 broadcast of Club d'Élite, which the CNC deemed as a challenge to its authority. The CNC's actions coincide with a legal battle initiated by Owona following his original suspension. The dispute has now entered the judicial arena, with a court summons for CNC President Joseph Chebongkeng Kalabubsu to appear before an investigating chamber in Ngoumou on Wednesday, September 30. This legal development runs parallel to the CNC's regulatory measures against Vision 4 and its personnel.
