UNAF kicks off Zonal Phase of African Schools Football Championship in Cairo Friday

About 200 girls and boys from different schools in the UNAF region will take part in the first Zonal Phase Qualifiers of the African Schools Football Championship from Friday, 07 October 2022.
Proceedings will start at 08h00 GMT (10h00 local time) at 30 June Complex in Cairo on Friday.
Hosts Egypt (host), Algeria, Morocco, Libya and Tunisia will take part in this crucial phase of the competition.
After a hard-fought national phase, each of these teams won their ticket to the zonal tournament.
The boys’ teams include Sewada School (Egypt), Alkaleel Tripoli School (Libya), Belawech Boumerde School (Algeria), Hedi Ayadi Sfax School (Tunisia) and Mohamed Elmaghraoui School (Morocco).
In the Girls’ category, the participating teams are Medja School (Egypt), Alkarama Girls School (Libya), Ibn Battouta Ain Defla School (Algeria), Aroui Sousse School (Tunisia) and Omar Ibn Khatab Rabat School (Morocco).
While football remains the main attraction, there will be plenty of activities for both boys and girls teams in the four days with a line-up including training for “Young Reporters’ Programme and the “Young Referee Programme’ – aimed at skills development and capacity building.
Another important element of the African Schools Football Championship is the Safeguarding Programme championed by CAF.
