TotalEnergies AFCON U-20: ‘We deserved to win’ – Rogers Mugisha

Uganda winger Rogers Mugisha says they deserve their hard fought win over TotalEnergies U-20 Africa Cup of Nations insisting their efforts paid off.

The Hippos star was named the TotalEnergies Man of the Match following their 2-1 victory over the Central African Republic in Group B of the TotalEnergies U-20 Africa Cup of Nations in Ismailia.

Second-half goals from captain Isma Mugulusi and John Paul Dembe fired Uganda ahead before Boris Gbenou pulled a goal to make for a nervy finish.

Mugisha, the pacy winger, was a constant threat down the left for Uganda as they dominated large parts of the match at the Suez Canal Stadium.

“We played really well and deserved to win the match,” the UPDF FC ace told journalists.

“We dominated the match and created chances to extend our lead. We’re happy with the result in the first match and it will help us in the upcoming matches.”

The soft-spoken starlet says being named the Man of the Match feels great and he hopes to do more.

“It feels great to win the award of the Man of the Match and it will boost me more. We want to qualify for the World Cup and winning today was important.”
