Holders Mamelodi Sundowns will take confidence in the fact that four of the five points they have collected in the CAF Champions League have been away from home as they prepare to take on Saint George of Ethiopia in a Group C Day Five clash on Saturday in Addis Ababa.

Masandawana will have to dig deep against the Ethiopians who are tied on five points with them and well within reach of a historical berth in the quarter finals of Africa’s most sought after club competition.

Sundowns will be wary of the danger posed by the Ethiopians at home bearing in mind the resilient performance they gave in Atteridgeville where they held the defending champions to a tough 0-0 stalemate.

A win in Addis Ababa will ease a lot of pressure on the defending champions heading into their final group match against AS Vita of DR Congo at home.

The Brazilians coach Pitso Mosimane will have to have his tactical plan spot on against the resilient Ethiopians who will be looking at causing an upset.

Sundowns will also have to get the job done without their talisman, Khama Billiat who also missed out on their 0-0 draw in Tunisia against Esperance two weeks ago. The skilful forward is undergoing rehab and is unavailable for selection.

The absence of Billiat has forced Mosimane to rely on the individual brilliance of Percy Tau who has delivered when it mattered the most. However, the speedy youngster who recently scored against Nigeria in the Total Africa Cup of Nations Cameroon 2019 qualifier has conceded the difficult position the club is finding themselves but is confident of progression.

If we get a win, we will be in a very good place. We need to go out there and give it our best shot. We know it won’t be easy because they also have a chance to go through. We have a plan and know what needs to be done, said Tau.

Sundowns will also be without trusted centre back, Wayne Arendse who has been nursing an ankle injury but has travelled with the team and will be assessed by the club’s medical staff.

AS Vita face leaders, Esperance in the other Group C match, also on Saturday in Kinshasa.
