The Cyber Security Authority in partnership with United Nations Office on Drug and Crime (UNODC) has schooled students at Keta Senior High Technical School on cyber fraud and its potential dangers. The education programme, which was held last Monday, was aimed at sensitising the students on how to stay safe from online fraud activities like phishing, romance scams, identity theft among others. Madam Patricia Adafienu, Manager, Capacity Building and Awareness Creation at Cyber Security Authority, in her lecture, said students should avoid using information technology tools for unlawful activities. She advised them to avoid taking nude pictures, accepting unknown friends and posting nude photos on social media. 'The internet never forgets, whatever you post today, may one day be used against you. So, be mindful of what to share and how you share them. Cyber fraud is a crime punishable by our laws, therefore you must stay away from it as students.' Mr Bernard Henebeng Asamoah, National Programme Coordinato r, UNODC, told Ghana News Agency how they intended eradicating incidents of cyber fraud from among school children in the quest for a crime free environment. Rev. Jones Golomeke, Assistant Headmaster, Administration, in his remarks, thanked the team for the gesture and hoped the education would positively impact on the students. The team from the Authority and the UNODC would be expected to visit about four other schools across the Volta Region including Keta Business College and Mawuli School, Ho to sensitised the students there on that score. Source: Ghana News Agency Finlays Community Trust, an independent charity organization that empowers communities and nurtures sustainable growth in Kericho and Bomet counties, has come to the aid of students at Sitian secondary school with the construction of a Sh6 million library. The standard library is set to benefit some 325 students at the day secondary school in Kericho County. Speaking during the commissioning of the new library, Finlays Community Trust Chairman Bishop Alfred Rotich said the infrastructure projects were part of the Trust's commitment to foster quality education by providing a conducive learning environment thereby creating a brighter future for the underserved communities. 'The Trust recognizes the educational challenges faced by our communities and this library stands as a testament to our commitment to fostering quality education in Kericho and Bomet counties. This initiative is an investment in knowledge, a vital resource for unlocking the true potential of our community members, paving the way for a more prosperous future,' Bishop Rotich said. The Trust has so far invested over Sh36 million in the construction of 14 libraries in Kericho and Bomet counties with over 4,000 students as beneficiaries. The independent charitable organization infrastructure projects launched in 2010 has invested over Sh300 million to support inclusive development as well as to empower communities in Kericho and Bomet counties which include the construction of Chemasinge secondary school that is two streamed for Sh110 million, 20 laboratories, 13 classrooms, six dining halls and five dormitories. In an interview, the Trust's secretary Sammy Kirui said the Trust had implemented over 85 infrastructure projects in the two counties in addition to supporting students pursue their undergraduate and graduate studies through their scholarship programs.
