Simba line up for Mbabane Swallows clash

Tanzania champions, Simba target huge victory on the first leg of Total CAF Champions league when they host Mbababe Swallows of Eswatin on Wednesday at the National Stadium, Dar es Salaam.

Simba, the 19 times Tanzania champions, returns to Champions league for the first time since 2013, and their trainer Patrick Aussems is adamant that this year they will do much better than in the previous editions. Last year they featured in the Confederation cup and knocked out by Al Masry of Egypt.

Aussems reveals that they expect tough game from Mbababe, but they will play attacking football but with huge discipline to make things happen at home and easy pressure for the return leg in Eswatin, a week later.

The former AC Leopards trainer, believes that he has good players to compete to the high level, therefore their tactical approach to the Wednesday evening clash will determine if they have a chance to go the next round of the continental top flight competition.

“We started preparations for the champions league several weeks ago and we believe that we are at high level to compete. All the players understand our target and what we want to do,” he noted after his side was forced to a goalless draw at home with Lipuli last Friday.

“It will not be an easy game. Mbabane Swallows is a good team and they have been doing good in the previous CAF tournament and that is something to make us play to the high level so as to win.

“We looked at their games to see their strength and weaknesses and so far we have learned enough to take them on Wednesday. We need to win with good goal margins to make things easy away,” he said.

Meanwhile, Ghana import, James Kotei believes that if they transform their current form into the champions league, their is no way they will not get good victory at home. Simba is third in Tanzania league and have scored 17 goals in the last six fixture.

“Our target is to get sweet victory at home. Our coach has done so much for this game and every player understand what we are supposed to do to win it.

“As a player, my duty is to help the club to perform well in the champions league, no me, but all the players. We need high level of concentration to win because we have the qualities to compete,” he said.

“We also need tactical discipline to play in the champions league. We respect Mbabane but we will play to our level to win,” he added.

Simba has good records in previous continental competitions, including reaching the final of CAF Cup in 1993 and Champions league last eight in 2003.
