Rwanda: APR’s Hakizimana named Player of the Year

For the first time, APR midfielder Muhadjiri Hakizimana was named the Rwanda Premier League Player of the Year. He scooped the topmost award at the third edition of the awards ceremony held on Thursday night in Kigali.

Hakizimana fended off competition from former APR midfielder Djihad Bizimana and AS Kigali striker Jean Claude Ndarusanze to win the topmost honour. He walked away with a trophy and Rwf1 million (US$1,150) in cash prize.

I am thankful to all my teammates, fans and APR staff. If it was not for them, I would not be able to win this award and this shows that if I work hard I can reach far, Hakizimana said.

Emmanuel Ruremesha was adjudged Coach of the Year award and Rayon Sports midfielder Kevin Muhire Biramahire Promising Player of the Year.

APR goalkeeper Yves Kimenyi won the Golden Gloves whilst Ndarusanze went home with the top scorer prize after netting 16 goals in 30 matches during the season.
