It looks gloomy for Nigeria champions, Rangers of Enugu after drawing 2-2 against Zesco United FC of Zambia in their 2nd 1/16thround first leg match played in Enugu on Sunday.
Rangers let go a 2-0 lead after goals from Chibuzor Madu, who scored from the penalty spot and a second half goal by Osas Okoro.
They however dropped their guard allowing David Owino Odhiambo and Patrick Konglo to score two goals in a space of five minutes to end the game two-all.
The Flying Antelopes will have to do the impossible in the second leg next weekend to qualify for the group stage of the competition following their elimination from the Total CAF Champions League.
Speaking after the game, Zesco head coach, Zlatco Krmpotic, expressed satisfaction with his players’ performance during the game, saying they would go home to seal up the result, and as well qualify to the group stage.
“I am happy with the way my boys played. Scoring two goals away is a good one for us. We will go home to score at least one more in the return leg to be in the group stage,” he said.
“Rangers did not play well. We had better experience than them and that gave us the advantage in the second half. We will rest until we achieve our aim in the tournament,” Krmpotic told CAFOnline.com.
“Also David Owino odhiambo confirmed that they are more experienced than Rangers.
“Rangers were leading with two goals but they could not maintain it. We relied on the counter attack and scored, and also pulled them from their defence and took ten passes and scored the second goal that shows that we are more experienced than them,” Odhiambo added.
