Bayelsa Queens records their first win at the CAF WCL after losing their opening game, they bounced back with a 2-0 triumph over TP Mazembe.
TP Mazembe are the fourth team in CAF WCL history to lose their second group game, after winning their first. They join Zambian side Green Buffaloes who at the current tournament began with a win over Determine Girls, but then lost to AS FAR. As well as Wadi Degla and AS FAR who won their first group games in 2021 and lost their second.
This is the earliest a Nigerian club featuring at the CAF WCL have won a game, at the 2021 CAF WCL Rivers Angels lost their first two group games against AS FAR and Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies.
Bayelsa Queens are the first Nigerian team to score in their opening two group games at the CAF WCL, at the 2021 tournament Rivers Angels did not manage to find the back of the net in either of their first two games which were a 0-3 reverse against AS FAR and a 1-0 loss to Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies.
This was the second meeting at the CAF WCL between teams from the UNIFFAC (Central Africa) and WAFU (West Africa) Zones and like in 2021 when Hasaacas Ladies of Ghana defeated Malabo Kings 3-1 at the group stages. Once more the team from West Africa come out on top.
Ogoma Joseph who scored Bayelsa Queens opening goal from the penalty spot, scored the fourth goal of the 2022 CAF WCL Finals from a penalty. In the whole of the 2021 tournament there were four goals from penalties.
Bayelsa Queens goalkeeper Ange Bawou saved all four shots that she faced in the game.
TP Mazembe goalkeeper Bridgette Ngamita made 8 saves in the game, no goalkeeper in the tournament has made as many saves in a single thus far.
Bayelsa Women had 11 shots on target in this game, from a total off 22 shots at goal. While TP Mazembe managed four shots on target.
Grace Igboamalu scored Bayelsa Queens second goal, which means that all three of their goals at the 2022 CAF WCL Finals have been scored by different players.
