Police in Kisii County have recovered 405 electronic gadgets believed to have been stolen from the members of the public following a routine crackdown in Kisii town. Speaking to the press in Kisii town, Kisii County Police Commander Charles Kases said that police officers conducted a search in one of the shops in the town where they suspected the second-hand electronic gadgets were being sold. Kases noted the officers managed to retrieve 351 mobile phones, 20 laptops, 13 tablets and 21 hard drives and also arrested 14 suspects who are believed to be connected with the offence. He pointed out that the suspects were in custody and will be arraigned and charged with the offense of cybercrimes and computer misuse of 2018 and also stealing from the public. The Police Commander said they will continue gathering more information because they believe the business is not being run by an individual, but several people in the surrounding counties including Migori and Nyamira. In addition, Kases warned those engaging in the businesses of stealing from the public that their days were numbered. He also urged the members of the public to visit the Kisii Central Police Station to check if their lost phones had been recovered. During the press briefing, a resident named Collins Onyango expressed his joy after recovering his phone from the recovered items. Onyango said his phone had been stolen by unknown people from his house where he resides at Jogoo area in Kisii town.
