NUMBA: AHLY GAME HOLDS KEY TO QUARTERS

Zanaco coach Mumamba Numba is backing his side to seal their quarter final spot from Group D in the penultimate match on Saturday.

The Zambian champions host record eight-time champions, Al Ahly of Egypt in a crucial Day Five clash at National Heroes Stadium in Lusaka.

Unbeaten Zanaco leads the group on 10 points , three more than second place Ahly, whom they held 0-0 in the reverse in Alexandria last May.

A draw will suffice for Zanaco to make their debut qualification to the knockout phase of the premier continental club championship.

This game is very important to us because this is the game that holds our key to the quarter finals, Numba said at the pre-match press briefing at the National Heroes Stadium on Friday.

We are taking it seriously because we are playing a team with a lot of experience and with quality players. We need to be at our peak to beat a team like Al Ahly.

Zanaco head into the match in good form with three successive wins and are also unbeaten in the pool with that away draw against Al Ahly their only minor blemish.

But they will be without defender and captain Ziyo Tembo who is suspended due to accumulation of yellow cards. He picked a second yellow card in their last game against Coton Sport of Cameroon in Garoua, which the Zambians won 1-0 and ended the formers interest in the race for a top two finish.

Coton Sport remain pointless after four matches, host Wydad Athletic Club of Morocco in the other Group D match, also on Saturday in Garoua. Wydad has six points.
