The Mercy Inspire Dream Foundation Ghana (MIDFOG), a non-government organisation, has donated learning materials to some less privileged pupils at Yorogo Asorogubiisi Primary School in the Bolgatanga Municipality of the Upper East Region. The package comprised 200 exercise books and 276 pencils, and was part of efforts to support needy pupils to stay in school and learn. At a brief presentation ceremony, Ms Mercy Akane, the Founder and Executive Director of the Foundation, said the foundation was established by dedicated individuals who recognised the importance of addressing challenges and gaps in education and healthcare sectors to empower the vulnerable in society. She indicated that the goal of the Foundation was to work with relevant stakeholders to contribute to appropriately respond to the pressing needs of underprivileged individuals in Ghana especially those in rural communities. 'The mission of the Foundation is to provide educational, health care and empowerment opportunities to less privileged individuals in Ghana. We aim to break the cycle of poverty and empower individuals to become agents of positive change in the Communities. 'Our vision is a Ghana where every individual regardless of their background, has access to quality education, healthcare and empowerment opportunities to realise their dreams. We envision a society characterized by social justice, equality and human rights for all,' he said. She said the Foundation intended to donate more teaching and learning materials to pupils and students especially the less privileged students in rural communities and roll out educative programmes to help empower the youth to become agents of positive change in their communities. Using herself as an example, she narrated the ordeal she faced in her educational journey. Ms Akane encouraged the pupils to be determined and motivated to overcome obstacles and challenges to become valuable individuals in society. Madam Emmanuella Adiita, the Headmistress of the school, thanked MIDFOG for the support and benevolence shown to the pupils and noted that it would go a long way to relieve financial stress on the schoolchildren and their parents in procuring learning materials. She encouraged the leadership of the Foundation to continue to undertake such philanthropic initiatives to help build communities and offer opportunities for needy children to be educated. Koskei who was speaking at Lel Wak High School in Nandi Hills sub-County, Nandi County during the thanksgiving ceremony for exemplary results in Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) for 2023 form four noted that education is the only equalizer between the rich and the poor. 'Education is the most powerful weapon that equalizes the rich and the poor. An A of a student from a rich background is equal to an A of a child from a poor background. Education has the power to transform one's entire life,' explained Koskei adding that when children are educated they can significantly contribute to their families as well as the society in various aspects. He further urged parents to team up with teachers who have to burn their midnight oil to ensure children excel in their academics as a way to motivate their hard work. 'Our g overnment is dedicated to supporting education sector in different aspects. I want to encourage you parents to play your key role as well as to team up with teachers to ensure your children have a bright future,' pointed Koskei adding that parents should also be at the forefront in combating illegal drugs in society by reporting any suspected cases to the relevant authority as way to save the young generation. The head of Public Service utilized the same forum to hail the security team in the region for their tireless efforts in dealing with illegal brew and drug abuse. He called on residents to work with the security team by providing information on such drugs that have ruined many youths in different localities. 'I want to applaud the security team for the good work you are doing in a bid to avert illicit brew. Make sure there is no cocaine and Bhang in this County,' he said. Nandi Hills constituency Member of Parliament (MP) Benard Kitur said his office through the National Government Constituency Deve lopment Fund is looking forward to sponsoring 1000 form four leavers to Technical Training Institutes (TTI) as well as 500 to driving schools who will be fully funded. 'This year, l am going to sponsor 1000 form four leavers who failed to qualify to university to do short courses, certificate courses, and diploma courses in TTIs as well as 500 youths to driving schools. This will be fully funded by NG-CDF,' implored Kitur. Present at the same event Catholic Diocese of Kitale retired Bishop Maurice Anthony Crowley urged the privileged in the community to support education through funding students from poor backgrounds regardless of their ethnic backgrounds. 'I want to call upon the financially stable in this community to support students from poor backgrounds in their education quest without looking at tribal backgrounds, 'advised Bishop Crowley. Principal Lel Wak Boys High School Gabriel Kieny said for students to excel in their education it requires concerted effort from both parents and the teaching fra ternity. He lauded all who played a role in ensuring his school achieved 100 percent transition to university and that the school has inadequate classrooms and equipment that they wish the government and well-wishers to help them equip. 'We as Lel Wak Boys are today celebrating our achievement as a team. I want to urge parents to continue with the spirit of supporting their children's education which is the greatest investment that can shape the young generation,' said Kieny.
