New Platform Launched to Address Anglophone Conflict

Accra:A new initiative, the People's Consultative Conference (TPCC), has been launched to facilitate discussions among residents of the North-West and South-West regions about the ongoing conflict and explore potential solutions for lasting peace.

According to Cameroon News Agency, the initiative is outlined in a declaration titled 'Towards a Permanent Solution.' The convenors emphasized that the platform aims to provide an inclusive space for individuals with diverse political views, identities, and experiences to contribute to resolving the crisis.

The declaration is endorsed by a 10-member College of Convenors, which includes Bah Augustine Ndangam, Prof. John Fobanjong, Pa Andrew Azong Wara, Dr. Lucie Ngongbo, HRH Dr. Tanyi Robinson, Rev. Dr. Enochong Mbiwan, Rev. Dr. Godwill Ncham, Sessekou/Dr. Sammy B. Arrey-Mbi, Alhadji Mohammed Aboubakar, chief imam of Buea, and Imam Tukur Mohammed Adamu.

The process will commence with extensive consultations involving communities in both regions and the diaspora. These consultations aim to gather experiences, concerns, and priorities in preparation for a physical conference slated for the first quarter of 2027. Delegates will review the gathered insights and deliberate on future actions. Specific dates for these events have not yet been announced.

The convenors clarified that the TPCC will not replace existing organizations or dictate political leadership. Participants will not be required to renounce their unionist, federalist, or independentist positions.

The declaration also references past efforts such as the All Anglophone Conferences in Buea in 1993 and Bamenda in 1994. The convenors urged for inclusive participation, peaceful engagement, and called for prayers every Friday at 3 p.m. to support the initiative's success.
