National Basketball Coach Weighs Up African Title Race Opponents

The coach of the Angolan national senior men’s basketball team, the Spaniard Moncho Lopez, is already studying data relating to squads that he considers the main opponents of Angola in the race for the African title of Afrobasket2015, namely Tunisia, Nigeria and Senegal.

This was said to Angop on Saturday in Luanda by the coach himself, highlighting that he is aware of the difficulties to be faced in his first mission in Africa, as the competition will be played a territory that he considers hostile.

The winner of the event will qualify the only African team for Rio de Janeiro2016 Olympic Games.

According to him, all elements of the national team know that Tunisia is a strong squad and playing at home makes it an added-value, thus requiring greater attention and redouble of efforts to play the final.

The draw of Afrobasket2015 is set for 4 April in Tunis, while the tournament will take place on 19-30 August in the Tunisian cities of Nabeul and Hammamet.

The championship will count on the participation of Tunisia (host), Angola (defending champion), Morocco, Mali, Cabo Verde, Côte d’Ivoire, Cameroon, Gabon, Egypt, Uganda, Zimbabwe and Mozambique. Other teams will be invited in order to complete the 16 participants in the event.

The winner of the event will qualify the only African team for Rio de Janeiro2016 Olympic Games.
