Nakamb©: The Nakamb© Regional Epidemic Management Committee convened for its second quarterly session of 2025, focusing on the region’s health surveillance in a challenging environment.
According to Burkina Information Agency, during the opening ceremony, the Secretary General of the Nakamb© region, Sayouba Ou©draogo, who represented the Governor and the President of the Committee, reported that the region had recorded over 128,000 cases of malaria, with 41,000 cases affecting children under five. Additionally, there were 139 cases of measles, 57 cases of meningitis, and 390 suspected cases of dengue fever as of week 28.
Regional Health Director Dr. Issa Guir© explained that the meeting aimed to assess the epidemiological surveillance system for the second quarter. He highlighted the significance of a multisectoral “One Health” approach that involves the health, environment, livestock, and agriculture sectors. Communication efforts were synchronized with community organizations and partners.
Dr. Bourama Ouattara, the chief medical officer of the Bittou health district, noted that the early warning system is operational across all areas, including those with challenging access. He stressed the importance of community and community-based health workers’ involvement in data reporting.
Participants reaffirmed their dedication to enhancing the response to epidemic-prone diseases, adhering to the “One Health” approach. The session ended with recommendations on improving stakeholder coordination and ensuring continuity of interventions.
