Mozambique maintained their winning spree after beating Lesotho 1-0 on Tuesday (28 March 2017) in Beira.
Dayo, who plays for local side, Ferroviario da Beira, scored the only goal in the dying embers as the Mambas recorded back-to-back wins after beating Angola 2-0 in a similar exercise last week in Maputo.
The Mozambicans had the luxury of wasting a penalty on the hour mark after captain Dominguez was denied by the Lesotho goalie.
The win serves a great boost for the Mambas ahead of the Total Africa Cup of Nations Cameroon 2019 group qualifiers due for June.
Abel Xavier (Head Coach, Mozambique)
It was a competitive game where my team had some problems of concentration and that allowed Lesotho to believe and threatened us on a couple of occasions. At the interval, I made observations and told my players to improve on their performance. In the second half, we created goal opportunities that led to us missing a penalty through our captain Dominguez. Towards the end, we managed to score the goal that gave us victory. I am very pleased with my players because they are on course.
Moses Malieh (Coach, Lesotho)
It was a difficult game and both teams had opportunities. We are preparing the team for the Total AFCON Cameroon 2019 qualifiers and it served a good preparation for us. What determined the game was the goal they scored. They played a style that completely shuffled our strategy for the game.
