Two goals from Tanzania top striker Aisha Masaka were enough to beat Uganda 2 1 in their FIFA U 17 Womens World Cup India 2020 first round first leg qualifier on Sunday at the National Stadium Dar es Salaam.
Fauzia Najjemba put the visitors upfront after six minutes scoring from a long range shot that left Tanzania goalie Asha Mrisho hapless.
However a comeback from Masaka ensured the homers crucial victory against their neighbours.
Tanzania left back Protasia Mbunda nearly grabbed the equalizer in the 28th minutes but her efforts went wide. Few seconds later Masaka received a pass on the left wing dribbled past two Ugandan defenders before firing home for the equalizer.
The homers dominated the second half creating several chances with Masaka missing a penalty five minutes from time.
However she made amends on 88 minutes with the winner capitalizing on a blunder by the Uganda defense.
Bakari Shime (Head Coach Tanzania)
We started the game very well but early goal from Uganda surprised us. We played very well tactically and created several chances in the first half but we could not turn them into goals. Uganda is a good side; they have offensive players that we had put a strong eye on them.
Ayub Khalifa (Head Coach Uganda)
I cannot blame my players. The temperature was too high and we could not play to our standard. I am looking forward to the second leg. I dont see Tanzania having a chance of a win in Uganda. I am assuring Ugandans home victory we are going to change the results and qualify.
