Zesco United coach Zlatko Krmpotic says the onus lies on his charges to show their worth and go all the way.
The Zambian outfit was drawn in Group C with Recreativo do Libolo of Angola, debutants Al Hilal Obeid of Sudan and Egyptian side, Smouha, during the draw of the second-tier continental club championship on Wednesday, 26 April 2017 at the CAF headquarters in Cairo, Egypt.
The 2016 CAF Champions League semi-finalists begin their campaign at home against Smouha on the weekend of 12-14 May 2017.
At the group stage, you don’t have small teams but Smouha is the best of the three teams in our group, Krmpotic said.
I know this team (Smouha), and they are a good team. I played them two years ago when I was at TP Mazembe.
The Serb is familiar with the Alexandria-based club during his days with the DR Congo giants, where he served as an Assistant Coach. Mazembe faced Smouha at the group stage of the CAF Champions League.
Krmpotic added that he was also looking forward to seeing the quality Al Hilal Obeid possess whom Zesco face away on match-day-two.
I don’t know much about Libolo but I hear they are a very good side in Angolan football,” Krmpotic said.
There is pressure in every game. we will prepare for them and try to win the first game against them in Ndola, Krmpotic said.
This is the first time Zesco has reached the group phase of the CAF Confederation Cup after making their bow at pool stage of a major continental club championship in 2009 in the CAF Champions League.
