Manama His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa today deputised HM the King’s Representative for Humanitarian Work and Youth Affairs, His Highness Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, to honour the laureates of the “King Hamad Youth Empowerment Award to Achieve SDGs”.
While addressing the award distribution ceremony, attended by ministers and officials, HH Shaikh Nasser expressed pride in being deputised by HM the King to attend the event on HM’s behalf, noting the prestigious award reflects HM King Hamad’s belief in the capabilities of the youth of the world, who have become the asset of the future of the globe, which have contributed to the emergence of a Bahraini and international youth force capable of setting the priorities of the world and presenting creative ideas that contribute to drawing a road map for the implementation of the sustainable development goals agreed upon by all world leaders.
HH Shaikh Nasser asserted that the Award has contributed to making the youth’s voice heard worldwide, citing the statistics of the organising committee indicating that as many as 6,176 participants from 122 countries presented their own projects stemming from their own ideas.
HH Shaikh Nasser congratulated all the winners of the Award, valuing highly the tremendous efforts they had exerted to enrich the sustainable development process.
His Highness also paid tribute to the Foreign Affairs Ministry, the Youth and Sports Ministry, the United Nations Economic and Social Council, the UN Development Programme in Bahrain and members of the award’s upper and initial judging panels for their close cooperation, which has contributed to ensuring the success of the initiative.
Member of the Award’s jury, Noaman Al-Sayyad, delivered a statement in which he extended thanks and appreciation to HM the King for patronising the Award, which, he said, testifies to the royal support for youth locally and globally.
He affirmed that HH Shaikh Nasser’s close follow-up has contributed to the Award’s success at the international level, citing the participation of contestants from 122 countries from various continents, noting that the Award reflects Bahrain’s commitment to urging countries, youth and organisations to do their utmost to achieve UN SDGs.
He added that the Award’s jury comprises globally-recognised professional, fair and transparent judges.
He also extended thanks to the Youth Ministry’s work team for their fruitful cooperation with the judging panel.
Then, HH Shaikh Nasser honoured the following laureates of the King Hamad Youth Empowerment Award to Achieve SDGs:
First Category: Recognising Youth Contribution to Achievement of Sustainable Development Goals:
“Planet” Award: Gerardo Jiménez, from Mexico, for his “ReciclApp” initiative.
“People” Award: Ally Zlatar, from Canada, for her “The Starving Artist” initiative.
“Partnership” Award: Christian Jacobsson, from Finland, for the “Sustainable Venture Creation” initiative.
“Peace” Award: Sarah Murray, from the US, for the “Free to Run” initiative
Institutions that creating opportunities for youth participation and action: Bapco Company, Bahrain, for its “The Bapco of Tomorrow” initiative.
Second Category: The Youth Enablers category:
“Technical Enabling” Award: Roma Mukherjee, USA, for the “Asante Africa Foundation” initiative.
