Kiambu County government is organising a mega Kiambu Employers summit for the youth in a bid to address the youth unemployment
The initiative, tailor-made to address the pressing issue of youth unemployment and socio-economic disparities within Kiambu County, represents a pivotal intervention aimed at fostering dialogue and collaboration among key stakeholders, including employers, government representatives, community leaders, and civil society organizations.
In a preparation meeting chaired by Ali Osman, CECM for Youth Affairs, Sports, and Communication, at Kiambu County headquarters, strengthening key areas such as digital technology, entrepreneurship and innovation, green economy, and trade and investments will be key in the summit with the aim of providing quality content.
According to the County Government Watch (CGW), Kevin Osido the summit will shed light on the glaring disparity between an increase of 1600 companies within Kiambu County and a disproportionate number of job opportunities which are
extended to individuals from outside the County.
‘Consequently, the unequal distribution of employment opportunities has led to a substantial segment of the youth demographic remaining unemployed.’ Osido said
Wendy Aura, the Young Women Leaders Connect, founder, echoed the CGW and appreciated the goodwill of the County government to enable engagements with the youth on the matter.
‘Youth unemployment is a huge problem that has compounded to even more problems including increased drugs and substance abuse and mental health challenges. We seek to pave the way for solutions that rectify systematic barriers to youth employment in the county.’ Aura said
The project is a partnership between The Department of Youth Affairs and Sports, County Governance Watch (CGW), and Young Women Leaders Connect.
