Kith a deft foot and a small frame, Kinuthia is easily recognisable among her peers. She began her football career playing in a boys’ team in Kitale, North Western Kenya. There were no women’s teams at that time and she took it upon herself to kick about with the boys until her talent was spotted when she was in school in the capital Nairobi in 2004.

Just like Esse Akida, she made her debut for the national team in 2012 in a friendly against Ethiopia. Her most memorable goal was the one she scored against Botswana in a 2016 Olympics Qualifier that sent the team to the second round of the campaign.

She is the most trusted lady to pull the strings on the wings in midfield and her prowess earned her a first ever professional contact in June this year when she moved to Sweden to play for second-tier side Dalhem IF.

She says the experience picked there is invaluable and concedes she comes back to Kenya a better player.

They were happy with how we performed in Sweden and we are waiting to get full contracts from next year. But definitely with a different tempo, physicality and competitiveness, I am better, she noted.

She adds: I hope to translate the same lessons I have picked to the national team and my target is to see us qualify for the second round. We are a more experienced team now and not as naAve as we were before.
