I Wore This Shirt Growing Up – Man Utd Sign Mbeumo

Manchester: Bryan Mbeumo says he has joined “the club of his dreams” after completing his move from Brentford for an initial £65m. The 25-year-old has signed a five-year contract, with the option of a further 12 months. He is manager Ruben Amorim’s third signing of the summer after the arrivals of forward Matheus Cunha and left-back Diego Leon.

According to BBC, Mbeumo expressed his excitement about joining Manchester United, stating that his mentality is to always improve and learn from playing alongside world-class players. He emphasized the positive environment and ambitious plans for the club’s future. United’s pursuit of Mbeumo included multiple bids, with the final agreement reached on their third offer. Mbeumo’s impressive record at Brentford includes 70 goals and 51 assists in 242 appearances since 2019, marking him as one of the most productive players in recent Premier League seasons.

United director of football Jason Wilcox praised Mbeumo’s exceptional consistency and productivity, highlighting his belief in the club’s project. Mbeumo’s departure from Brentford marks the club’s biggest sale, surpassing the previous record set by Ivan Toney’s transfer to Al-Ahli. Brentford’s director of football Phil Giles expressed gratitude for Mbeumo’s contributions over six seasons, acknowledging his development and the joy he brought to fans.

Mbeumo, who will don the number 19 shirt, is set to join United’s pre-season tour in the United States. His career-best figures in the Premier League last season underline his attacking prowess, with standout metrics in goals, assists, and key plays. Mbeumo’s running threat and ball recovery skills further enhance his profile as a dynamic winger.

The negotiations for Mbeumo’s transfer were complex, with Manchester United facing challenges in meeting Brentford’s financial demands. Despite interest from rivals like Tottenham and Newcastle, United secured the deal, reflecting their strong position in the market. The transfer is seen as a significant coup for United, reinforcing their status as an attractive destination for top talent.

As the transfer window remains open until September 1, Manchester United continues to strategize around additional deals, including potential departures. However, securing Mbeumo and fulfilling manager Ruben Amorim’s main summer targets bolsters the club’s ambitions for the upcoming season.
