Ghana oust Algeria, set up Benin date

Ghana have booked their place at the final round of the qualifiers after beating their Algerian counterparts 2-0 Sunday at the Cape Coast Stadium. The West Africans advanced 2-0 on aggregate to set up a date with Benin for a place at next year's tournament in Niger.

Both sides used the early moments to size up each other with the Ghanaians making the first attempt at goal.

The Black Satellites kept probing with Richard Danso and Ibrahim Sadiq on the left and right flanks keeping the full backs of Mohammed Belaribi and Abdelkaaer Belharrane busy.

Ghana nearly grabbed the opener in the 26th minute when striker Emmanuel Danso's header from a free kick, hit the crossbar. Danso again had another opportunity to give the Ghanaians the lead in the 31st minute after a miscommunication between Zineddine Belaid and goalkeeper Said Daas, but his free header missed narrowly.

At this point, it was all Ghana as minutes later Captain Isshaku Konda's header also missed the post by inches.

Their persistence eventually paid off in the 37th minute as midfielder Mohamed Kudus waved his way through a forest of Algerian players before unleashing a low shot which zoomed past goalkeeper Daas.

Back from recess and the Ghanaians will continue to dominate and in the 47th minute increased the tally with the 2nd goal through Sadiq.

Both coaches made changes to their game to affect the score line but it remained the same till the referee blasted the final whistle.
