El Berkaoui born to score goals

Intelligence anticipation and vision combined with agility speed and skill these are some of the qualities of Hassania Agadir forward Karim El Berkaoui.

Originally a winger the 24 year old has been giving defenders sleepless nights with his blistering pace and finishing prowess which has made him one of the best for the position in the Moroccan top flight ‘Botola’ the last three years.

He has been linked with a move to the gulf a couple of times a situation which forced HUSA as Hassania are fondly called to renew his contract last season which was good news to the ears of the club’s supporters after his exploits on the domestic front and the CAF Confederation Cup.

My ambition this year is to go farthest in the CAF Confederation Cup and make our supporters proud. As a player I try to work hard to improve my performance. And why not one day become a professional player outside MoroccoKarim El Berkaoui

There is no big star at Hassania. We are all ‘stars’ as we complement each other. It is thanks to the group that I have been performing well and I am willing to give everything for my club and the fans. Berkaoui told CAFonline.com

His performances has attracted interest of Casablanca giants Wydad Athletic Club and Raja Club Athletic and abroad including Etoile du Sahel of Tunisia; but for him Hassania remains home until a club from Europe comes calling.

El Berkaoui is the kind of player who reads the game well backed by his tactical knowledge that makes him a leader on the pitch.

He knows how to position himself which puts him in scoring positions even in difficult situations. He has the ability to take on defenders thanks to his speed and dribbling techniques. I think he was born to become a forward as he combine with accuracy strength and creativity Moroccan journalist Houssein Allali told CAFOnline.com

HUSA fans reckon that that Botola title is out of their reach this season as they are languishing in the bottom halve of the league log. However for the 2002 and 2003 Moroccan champions the CAF Confederation Cup title is achievable and the presence of El Berkaoui has inspired them to believe.

He is capable of leading our club to win the CAF Confederation cup. He is an exceptional forward able to score from inside and outside the penalty area. In addition he has exhibited good ethics Ismail Gouraich a supporter of Hassania said.

El Berkaoui lived up to expectations with a hat trick his second this term in the quarter final first leg 5 0 away to Libyan side Al Nasr played in Cairo last Sunday. He scored twice in the first half before adding one in the second to complete a hat trick just as he did in the 3 0 win of Ivorian debutants San Pedro at the group stage.

The 5 0 first leg win give HUSA one foot at the last four where their possible opponents will be either fellows RS Berkane or Al Masry of Egypt.

Despite the big advantage El Berkaoui insists there is still much to do in the reverse on Sunday against the Libyans.

We are performing well in the continental club competition. However we are aware of the difficulties we may face in the upcoming games.
