Yaounde: The Administration of Holy Cross International College, Yaounde, has denounced what it described as coordinated attacks against the institution since the tragic passing away of a 13-year-old student, whose identity is concealed for ethical reasons.
According to Cameroon News Agency, the school stated in a communique that some social media users and pages have spread false information alleging negligence by the school. In reality, when the child reported feeling unwell on Friday, November 14, 2025, he received prompt attention, including parental involvement. He was subsequently referred for further medical attention at a clinic on Saturday, November 15, 2025, after leaving the school with an exeat order signed by the school’s medical doctor. The release highlighted that the student participated in sports on Thursday, attended all his lessons on Friday, and only reported to the infirmary later that day.
The school emphasized that the student remained stable during his stay at the clinic, with the sc
hool medical doctor maintaining continuous contact with the clinic’s medical team. Unfortunately, despite these efforts, his condition deteriorated on the third day, leading to his transfer to another hospital where he passed away.
Despite evidence showing comprehensive follow-up until his demise, some social media reports suggested otherwise. The College condemned the spread of such misleading information, asserting that it aims to tarnish the institution’s image.
The administration urged the community to remain calm and guided by respect, compassion, and verified information, emphasizing their focus on supporting the family, maintaining unity, and safeguarding the student’s dignity. They reassured all parents and stakeholders that student health, safety, and well-being are among their highest priorities, with strict medical, administrative, and pastoral procedures in place.
CNA also noted a disclaimer from the deceased student’s parent, Sama Clara, who categorically stated that her son’s health was not n
eglected by the school’s administration. She clarified that the school acted promptly and collaborated closely with the family to ensure proper medical care, labeling any contrary statements as defamatory and warning of potential legal action if not retracted within 48 hours.
Further investigation by CNA revealed that the Head of the school, Dr. Julia Buban, is a pediatrician with extensive experience and qualifications, including a WHO scholarship. The school maintains an infirmary staffed by a medical doctor and three nurses, ensuring comprehensive medical care, referrals, and vaccinations for students. The administration highlighted their robust health and safety measures, including insurance coverage, water safety measures, and mosquito prevention in dormitories.
