Death of Buea university student: Human rights lawyer calls on autopsy, family debunks claims

The Sécurité Militaire, SEMIL known in English as Military Security officers of Buea have hinted that the two students who were recently arrested in Buea were secret agents of Ambazonia fighters.

According to security sources, Ngule Linus Fonteh, who died in an interrogation process was an International Relations student and Mbo Giress Akua, a postgraduate Public Administration student from the university of Buea were assisting Ambazonia separatist fighters to set up explosives in the town to reinforce Monday ghost towns.

The source said after secret intelligence investigations, it was revealed that “the two were disguising as university students”

Adding that they were operating under Sagat, a notorious Ambazonian fighter who has been operating in Fako, South West region.

The two are said to have been arrested and taken to their homes where weapons were allegedly discovered.

According to the source, Sagat’s camp was attacked and two of his fighters were captured and killed and were displayed in Buea.

Ngule Linus later died at the military hospital, while in custody, meanwhile Mbo Giress is presently detained at SEMIL. The Military Security said Linus died from emotional attacks.

But the family of Ngule Linus has debunked claims that their son was a secret agent to Separatists, one who decided to speak anonymously to CNA said,

“It is so fake. Linus has never mingled into such things. He got the advanced level at Mbanga and enroll in the university of Buea to continue his study where he finally met his death. It is a great loss to the family and the country. All the dreams Linus was having just shattered like that, it is so regrettable. The autopsy will be conducted and everything being possible, the corpse will be transported to the village for burial”

Human Rights Lawyer Wants autopsy on Linus

Barrister Abgor Felix, founder of the Centre for Human Rights and Democracy in Africa, said the military should hand over Mbo Giress for investigations and fully cooperate to see that an autopsy is seamlessly done on Linus Ngule,

“We therefore, call for an independent medical expert to undertake an autopsy to ascertain the cause of death of Ngule Linus. We call on SEMIL to fully cooperate and provide all the necessary support to ensure a seamless process. The representatives of the family of the deceased student should be involved at all stages of the said autopsy. As far as Mbo Giress is concerned, we urge SEMIL to immediately hand him over to the competent authorities for any investigations. He must be provided with a Counsel of his choice to assist him in the process.”
