Douala: Achu Valery, also known as Chef Chepele, has extended support to internally displaced persons (IDPs) of the Anglophone crisis and orphans in Douala, providing them with essential commodities to help sustain their daily lives. According to Cameroon News Agency, Mr. Valery, who fled the Anglophone crisis in Bamenda to Douala in 2017, distributed basic goods such as rice, oil, vitamins, soap, salt, and flour among others. As the crisis continues, Chef Chepele shared that he remembered his struggles as an IDP in Douala and wanted to support those in need as he marked his birthday. Chef Chepele stated, "I celebrated my birthday on January 25, and the only thing that came to my mind was to reach out to persons in need, especially internally displaced persons of the Anglophone crisis. Having faced the repercussions of the ongoing crisis that pushed me and my family out of Bamenda in 2017, I know and understand the challenges faced by IDPs. Community integration, language barrier, lack of basic commodities are just a few of these challenges." He added, "Visiting these persons is my own way to show them that they are not forgotten." Mbangwe Victorine, a mother of six and an IDP since 2018, expressed her gratitude towards Chef Chepele's actions, noting that few people still remember the existence of IDPs. She lost her husband in the conflict and relocated to Douala, where she now sells fruits to make a living.
