Following the completion of the Zonal qualifiers for the Total U-17 Africa Cup of Nations Tanzania 2019, CAF and UEFA has held a meeting to evaluate issues related to the organisation of the competition.
As a novelty and with support of UEFA through their UEFA ASSIST program, the qualifiers was organised by the six CAF Zones (Central, Central-East, North, Southern, West A & West B ) to determine the seven qualified teams to join host Tanzania for next year’s final tournament.
The meeting held from 2-3 October 2018 at the CAF Headquarters in Cairo, Egypt, saw the exchange and sharing of ideas on key aspects such as Competitions, Development, Medical, Media and Marketing amongst others.
The two-day meeting also resolved on the need to highlight the developmental objective of such competitions; rather than focusing on laurels to help in the career growth of young players with the support the coaches and educators.
It was a successful meeting, which has opened the way for future editions of the competition. The support of UEFA was immense and positive towards the development of players and coaches involved in youth football, said CAF Deputy General Secretary, Anthony Baffoe.
UEFA was represented by Jean Francois Domergue – Head of Development, Eva Pasquier – Head of International Relations and Olivier Doglia – Youth Development Manager.
