On the sidelines of the ongoing Total Women’s Africa Cup of Nations Ghana 2018, CAF President Ahmad Ahmad held a meeting with the Commissioner for Social Affairs of the African Union Commission, Mrs Amira El Fadil, to discuss partnerships between the two bodies.
At the meeting on Saturday, 24 November 2018 in Accra, the duo emphasized on the need to use the power of sport to fight corruption on the continent, which is the 2018 theme for the African Union.
They also discussed effective ways towards promoting and development of women’s football on the continent.
CAF and the African Union signed a Memorandum of Understanding on 14 July 2012 and in this context various actions have been carried out. It includes organisation of a match to raise funds at the height of the famine in the Horn of Africa region and various campaigns at CAF competitions on themes such as prevention of young girls against early marriages, access to education and youth employment, which are goals of the Agenda 2063 launched in 2013, a strategic framework for the socio-economic transformation of the continent over the next 50 years.
