CAF African Schools Football Championship: A festive atmosphere to conclude the first UNAF zonal phase

The boys’ and girls’ teams from Ecole Hedi Ayadi in Tunisia and Ecole Omar Ibn Khatab in Morocco have both secured their spot in the Continental Phase of the CAF African Schools Championships after emerging winners of the UNAF zonal round in Cairo, Egypt.

After beating Ecole Alkaleel from Libya 2:0 in the final game of the zonal games, Ecole Hedi Ayadi amassed 12 points to secure their spot in the Continental phase.

In the girl’s division, Tunisian team Ecole Aroui’s fixture against Ecole Elkarama of Libya was one of the fierce but most exciting games in the competition as Ecole Aroui thrashed Ecole Elkarama in a 9:0 win. However, fell short 3 points behind winners Ecole Ibn Khatab.
Both Ecole Hedi Ayadi winners of the boys’ division and Ecole Omar Ibn Khatab winners of the girl’s division in the UNAF zonal contest earned a whooping USD 100,000 each as champions.

The runner-ups and third-placed teams from both the boys’ and girls’ divisions were also rewarded USD 75,000 and USD 50, 000 respectively.

Ecole Boulawech Boumerde (ALG) won Silver with 7 points while Ecole Sewada (EGY) with six points secured Bronze in the boys’ division.

From the girls’ division Ecole Aroui (TUN) with 9 points won Silver while Ecole Mejda(EGY) with 5 points won Bronze.
Some impressive talents during the competition were also awarded for putting up a great show.

In the girl’s division, Salma Marzouki from Tunisia’s Ecole Omar Ibn Khatab won the Best scorer while Ecole el Karama from Libya received the Fair Play Award. Best Player went to Sara Dofry from Morocco.

In the boy’s division, Ecole el Maghraoui Morocco also won the Fair Play Award with Khoubayeb Bouzima winning the Best Scorer. Aziz Ahmed Jouinni also won the Best players award.
Best Goalkeepers went to Ahlam Boukhorb of Morroco’s Ecole Omar Ibn Khatab in the girls division while Ayoub Selmani from Ecole Hedi Ayadi claimed the prize in the boy’s division.

Earlier in the day, the FIFA Connect Workshop was organized for CAF, UNAF, Technical Directors and Coaches to refreshen the scope and knowledge of the game.
The closing ceremony was observed by the Egyptian Minister of Education and Technical Education, Dr. Reda Hegazy, Minister of Sports Ashraf Sobhi, the President of the Egyptian Football Association, Gamal Allam, Abdelhakim Al-Shalmani, The President of UNAF and Mr. Véron Mosengo-Omba, the General Secretary of CAF.
