Bomet County Government has disbursed Sh167 million to fund full and partial scholarship programme for 16,125 learners.
Education Chief Officer, Dr. John Keter, said Sh65 million was allocated for partial scholarships for 14,250 students, while Sh77 million was to fund full scholarships for 1,250 secondary school learners.
Dr Keter said another Sh25 million was disbursed to pay for 625 full scholarship Vocational Training College students, as well as partial scholarships for 1,619 others.
The Chief Officer said this in a meeting in his Bomet office with the Education Executive, Agnes Ngeno and other education officials, including Victolyne Korir of Quality Assurance, Philemon Langat (Bursary Fund Administrator), Alphonse Kirui In-Charge of Vocational Training Colleges and Sub-County Education Officers, as well as Ward Education Coordinators.
He added that plans were at an advanced stage to have the County Public Service Board employ an additional 150 early childhood and development education teachers to a
dd to the existing 1,343 who served at 1,233 ECDE centres across the county.
He further stated that the teachers were set to undergo training on the competency-based curriculum at Kenya Literature Bureau to ensure that the learners got quality education.
‘We have also received learning materials and they are currently available for distribution to our ECDE centres,’ he said.
‘We have also procured chairs for centres that are in need of such important infrastructure,’ he added.
Dr. Keter said the Ward Education Coordinators were to oversee the construction of ECDE centres and that the officials were also challenged to ensure efficient distribution of free milk as well as delivery of chairs and learning materials.
