Beach Soccer: Senegal are the new COSAFA Champions

Senegal will go into the Beach Soccer Africa Cup of Nations in high spirits. The continental defending champions have added another feather to their cap.
The Beach Soccer AFCON will take place from October 21 to 28 in Vilankulos, Mozambique.
The Lions of Teranga are the new COSAFA Beach Soccer champions. They beat fellow guests, Egypt 5-3 in the final of the tournament held in Durban South Africa. Senegal started the match on the back foot with the Pharaohs taking an early lead, but the African champions were able to come back in the last period to win the tournament.
Senegal booked their ticket to the final of the competition after mercilessly beating Uganda, 10-3 in the first of the semi-finals while Egypt came from behind to snatch a win from Mozambique. They won the second semifinal 2-1.
Meanwhile east African side, Uganda defeated last edition’s champions Mozambique to take the bronze medal. The Sand Cranes won the contest 8-7 in extra time.
Uganda started the match on fire and went into the first period break with a 4-1 lead however, the Southern region side came back strong in and forced the match to end 7-7. Opening goal scorer Godfrey Lwesibawa scored the winning goal for the Cranes to earn the side a third-place position.
Top goal scorer
Nelson Manuel (Mozambique), MVP of Beach Soccer AFCON 2021, is the top scorer of the COSAFA tournament with 13 goals. He is followed by Uganda’s Ambrose Kigozi (9 goals) and Senegal’s Mamour Diagne (8 goals).
