This case is indicative of a broader trend where gendarmes are accused of entering private residences without justification, forcibly demanding national ID cards, engaging in illegal monetary collection, harassment and intimidation tactics, and physical violence and arbitrary punishment. Residents have expressed particular alarm over routine harassment of civ ilians, including forced searches and demands for identification, and the use of violence to settle personal disputes, especially involving women linked to law enforcement personnel. The residents of Awing Village seek protection, professionalism, and respect from law enforcement officials.
