Douala: DISI-CAMEROUN and its leader, Paul Joel Kamtchang, have come under fire following a report alleging that the Cameroon News Agency (CNA) was involved in disseminating Russian and Separatist agendas during the 2025 Presidential elections. The contentious report, which has sparked significant backlash, notably fails to provide concrete evidence or details supporting its claims, merely mentioning CNA in the conclusion.
According to Cameroon News Agency, the report by ADISI-CAMEROUN is seen as baseless and potentially dangerous, especially given the sensitive nature of the allegations. The CNA has raised concerns about the lack of due diligence in the analysis presented by ADISI-CAMEROUN, warning that such unfounded claims could endanger reporters by making them targets. The agency has questioned whether there might be confusion with another entity using the same name, as they categorically deny any involvement in promoting a Russian agenda during the elections.
The CNA has criticized the motives behind
the report, suggesting that some civil society organizations (CSOs) and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) might prioritize securing funding over the integrity and safety of media professionals. It has called for ADISI-CAMEROUN to either substantiate its claims with published reports from CNA or retract the allegations entirely. The CNA also highlighted that a sister-company, MMI News, was similarly accused without basis, portraying these actions as a targeted attack on Anglophone media.
The CNA emphasized its role in the democratic process by conducting two Opinion Polls on the October 12, 2025 elections, which received substantial public engagement. They expressed disappointment that ADISI-CAMEROUN did not acknowledge this contribution, opting instead to disseminate what CNA describes as “Fake News.” The agency has demanded an immediate retraction of the claims from the report, asserting that honesty should not be sacrificed for financial gain.
