The money and tonnes of food items are for troops fighting Boko Haram in the Far North Region.
Governor Awa Fonka Augustine of the West Region, who for sometime now has been leading the crusade for patriotic zeal to step up support against the terrorist group, Boko Haram, says there is no pulling back until the incursions by the sect are completely eliminated on Cameroonian soil. He said, because Cameroonians have the right to security and protection against attacks by this insurgency, the West Region will continue to mobilise their financial and material support as long as Boko Haram’s extremist incursions last.
Awa Fonka made the declaration in Bafoussam on April 1, 2015 while chairing a fundraising meeting where the sum of FCFA 30 million FCFA and tonness of food items were donated by Mifi population. He regretted that the senseless destruction of human lives and property by the terrorist group has forced the regime divert funds meant for economic growth to the support of the defense forces and displaced victims who are in thousands in the Northern regions of Cameroon. He used the occasion to thank a group he described as G30 of West Region origin, for raising FCFA 100 million, the mobilisation in Bafang, Bangangte, Baham, Bamboutos and Foumban led by Sultan Ibrahim Mboumbou Njoya, where millions were raised to support the defense forces.
He assured the public that he as a frontline administrator of the Region, will not relent his efforts in seeking ways to explain to the population, who are beginning to recognise the problem of the terrorist group Boko Haram, the importance of nationalism and patriotism by paying respect to the defense force. He was optimistic that with the change at the helm of Nigeria, things will go for better as the fight against insurgency is concerned.
