Preparations have heightened in the country ahead of the upcoming 2015 session of the Higher National Diploma, HND examinations. The examinations will last from June 23 to July 4, 2015 in four centres: Bamenda, Buea, Douala and Yaounde. According to the official programme from the Ministry of Higher Education, the practicals will take place from June 23-24, while the written phase runs from June 29 to July 4, 2015.
In preparation, students are burning midnight oil, making final revisions in order not to be disappointed. At the Siantou University Complex in Mvog-Mbi, Yaounde, yesterday, June 3, 2015, the atmosphere was calm. This was indication of the seriousness of the students in preparing for the task ahead. Not many students were around, except for those attending revision classes. Some of them could be seen checking their names on lists pasted on the notice board adjacent the administrative block.
One of the students, Rolland Ngalla Ndi, a second year student in the Department of Information Communication Technology (ICT), said he came to check if his name was on the list of candidates who will take part in examination. He said he wrote 11 subjects last year but failed four. This year he will repeat the four subjects. Ndi said he was working hard to succeed this around because if again fails, he will have to pay the normal school tuition of FCFA 400,000 to resit.
Another student who asked for anonymity said she came to school because there was a revision class with one of the lecturers. She said after the class, she will revise with her friends in a study group. “Study groups are important at this time because we learn from each other,” she explained. The Head of the Department of Journalism, Cyrille Tchakounteacute, said the students were well prepared for the examination. He explained that syllabuses were covered in the First Semester and the Second Semester was only for revision. He expressed confidence that the students will all pass because they had enough time to revise and were taught by professional journalists. The HND examination is organised by the Ministry of Higher Education and will be supervised its officials.
