XAVIER UNVEILS MOZAMBIQUE SQUAD FOR KENYA FRIENDLY

Mozambique coach Abel Xavier has named a 24-man squad for next month's friendly with Kenya.

The Mambas host the Harambee Stars on Saturday, 2 September 2017, at the Estadio Nacional do Zimpeto in Maputo to prepare for future competitions especially the next round of matches of the qualifiers of the Total Africa Cup of Nations Cameroon 2019.

Xavier has extended invitations to no less than ten foreign-based for the clash with goalkeeper Ricardo Campos of Portuguese side, Uniao de Leiria, getting his first call-up after two years on the sidelines due to injury.

Midfielder Kito's performances with local side, Costa do Sol, has been rewarded with a place in the squad.

Xavier is also looking forward to make amends after the recent loss to Madagascar at the penultimate round of the qualifiers for the Total African Nations Championship (CHAN) Kenya 2018.

This is a friendly game to continue to prepare the team for the Total Africa Cup of Nations Cameroon 2019 qualifiers that will take place in March next year.

We have been working internally and we found Kenya as a competitive opponent that will give us the expected test we are looking for, Xavier concluded.

The Mambas are joint leaders of Group K with Guinea Bissau on three points in the Total AFCON 2019 qualifiers, after shocking Zambia 1-0 away in Ndola last June. Namibia and Zambia, the other teams in the group are pointless.
